12/25/2024 — Route 68, Blaine County
In the early hours of Christmas morning, Route 68 turned into a high-stakes scene as troopers from the San Andreas Department of Public Safety (SADPS) and deputies from the Blaine County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) worked together to handle a potentially catastrophic situation. The incident began at approximately 1:45 AM when SADPS troopers initiated a routine traffic stop on a vehicle near the Senora National Park access point.
The vehicle, a gray sedan driven by a 42-year-old female from Los Santos, raised red flags during the stop. While officers were interacting with the driver, signs of unusual modifications to the car’s undercarriage were observed. A specialized K-9 unit alerted officers to a suspicious device within the vehicle, prompting an immediate escalation. It was later confirmed that the device was an improvised explosive device (IED).
The troopers immediately called for backup from the BCSO and secured the area to ensure public safety. Residents and travelers along Route 68 were diverted to alternate routes as the scene unfolded. Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) units were brought in to safely neutralize the device, while crisis management teams worked to assess the risk to nearby communities.
Sheriff Larson Comments on the Incident
Sheriff Larson of Blaine County praised the swift coordination between his deputies and the SADPS troopers. “Thanks to the vigilance of the troopers who initiated this stop and the incredible teamwork with our office, a potentially devastating incident was averted. Everyone involved showed professionalism under pressure.”
Colonel CiGaming of the SADPS Speaks
Colonel CiGaming, the commanding officer of the SADPS, expressed gratitude for the outcome, stating, “This situation highlights the importance of training and inter-agency cooperation. Every individual who responded demonstrated why San Andreas is committed to the safety of its citizens. The fact that this was resolved without harm is a testament to their dedication and skill.”
The driver, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, was taken into custody without incident. Authorities have confirmed that she is being investigated for potential ties to criminal networks, and charges are expected to follow.
Community on High Alert
While the incident ended safely, it has sparked concern among Blaine County residents. Local officials have assured the public that every precaution is being taken to ensure community safety during the holiday season. Both the SADPS and BCSO have pledged to increase patrols and remain vigilant for any suspicious activities.
Route 68 was reopened to traffic around 4:30 AM after the EOD team confirmed the area was secure. Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the incident to contact local law enforcement or the SADPS tip line.
